Fear and Loathing: the Veeps

Hello folks, in a couple of hours, loquatious Biden and hokey Palin will be attempting to prove their readiness to be 1st runner up to the person with their finger on the button. I’m going to try to blog live, by commenting to this post. You can do the same, and hopefully it’ll all stream live.

Just remember, this is a site that welcomes young adults, so speak your mind, but keep the commentary clean.

Bring it on, Gwen!

Oh, why is this post titled fear and loathing? Because I fear that Biden will be awful and I really loathe Palin.

  2. yecarth says:

Gwen will cover domestic and foreign policy matters. They will be divided into 5 minute intervals, and the candidates will have 90 seconds to speak, and then 2 minutes for rebuttal.

  3. yecarth says:

Palin says that McCain is the one calling for reform. Cites Fannie and Freddie reform from 2 years ago.

I’m watching on a slight delay, so I’ve read your comments before it started. Kinda awesome, like getting a preview.

  5. Amanda says:

THat’s what Obama kept doing too. He’s trying to not sound “elite” by being overly nice. Annoying. Be mean–she deserves it.

  6. yecarth says:

Oh, dude, he just back-handed her with the statistics about Obama and McCain’s votes about tax-raising.

  7. Jenny says:

So what she’s saying is that she’s going to talk about what she’s rehearsed– NOT what Gwen is asking her or Biden is discussing– right? Cool.

  8. Amanda says:

Just talked to my dad–a staunch liberal–and he said she was doing well. Should I be worried or is he pulling my leg?

  9. yecarth says:

Love that Biden got into what exactly the health plans are going to be. And the Bridge to Nowhere comment was FAB.

  10. yecarth says:

she does what she does very well. Talk as if she’s “one of us” and straight to the camera. I think that plays well with people who aren’t really listening.

  11. yecarth says:

That was an interesting twist, Biden agreeing that Palin did the right thing with the energy issues in Alaska, while saying that McCain was not going to do the same for everyone else.

  12. yecarth says:

she didn’t get to respond to his comment about her energy prog. and McCain’s disagreement with doing it for everyone.

  13. yecarth says:

did she just change her position? She said before that she didn’t think climate change was due to man-made emissions.

  14. yecarth says:

She said that Obama/Biden can’t be the force of change if they keep looking back and pointing fingers.

  15. yecarth says:

My perception is that Biden is more calm, and has a better handle on what’s going on. On the other hand, she’s just using and re-using talking-points.

  16. Karen says:

She is holding her own for the most part. I still disagree with her, but she doesn’t look like an idiot.

  17. Amanda says:

But is it obvious that she is not answering the questions? I mean, to joe six-pack, does she look good?

  18. Jenny says:

People who liked her already are going to think she is wonderful. If she says “Maverick” one more time, I may scream!j

    But I almost have BINGO!!

  19. Jenny says:

Jesus– she has got to stop the cutesy stuff. I may puke! She just gave a shout out to 3rd graders!

  20. yecarth says:

I don’t think you’ll get it. He trumped the phrase with his own Bridge to Nowhere comment early on.

  21. Jenny says:

He got choked up talking about how he knows how it feels to be a struggling single parent and he knows how it feels to wonder if a child is going to make it.

Oh geesh– he didn’t just talk about Jesse Helms!! Kill me now!

  22. Karen says:

I know I’m behind you guys, but I just hit the Achilles heel question, and it seems as though her answer was why she’s awesome. Which, not the question.

  23. Jenny says:

    HA!

Well– I’m disappointed she didn’t fall on her face. Charlie Gibson just pointed out that she said the wrong name for a general, but Biden was respectful and didn’t call her on it. I’m sure she’ll get lots of praise for this one.

  24. Amanda says:

I just turned it on to see closing remarks. Would LOVE to know what he was saying to her when they were done. Would KILL to know just about now actually!!

  25. yecarth says:

I’m watching it on 13, so it’s Lehrer and co.
I’m packing it in now, though. I am totally tired.

  26. Karen says:

    I’m watching CNN.

Tracey, thanks for hosting. Maybe we can have a thread tomorrow on the blog about it — a politics thread so that no one will read it if they don’t want to talk about it.
