The in-between times

Right now, I’m between projects, which is a great time. The possibilities are literally endless. Anything you see or hear or smell or touch can become the thing that sparks an idea that gets the story going. I love this time. But it also makes me antsy. I’m anxious for the project to get started already. Still, it’s important to use this in-between time to its fullest so that when that next story comes, you have plenty of stuff to put in it.

Read a book. One of those you’ve been meaning to read, but haven’t had the time to.

Go for a walk. I mean, the weather’s perfect. Don’t forget to observe people and things that you might use later.

Catch up with your friends. Have you abandoned them in favor of your work? Meet ’em for drinks.

Let your mind wander. Is there any better way to come up with great ideas?

Do something else creative, like paint, or garden, or take a dance class. All creative juices are good ones.

Be like Homer and enjoy the down time. You’ll be caught up in the next story soon enough.

What do you like to do when you’re between projects?
