So here’s the scenario…
Your neighbor/coworker comes over with a gift for you. You are grateful, though feeling grinchy. You haven’t gotten anything for them! You stall, say that you left it at home/inside and will have it in just a bit. You run inside, grab some left-over bulky weight yarn, a pair of size 11 needles and an hour later, voila! A beautiful hand-made gift that appears to have been thought out for at least a week. The cables keep it toasty and close around the neck. The bobble and button hole keep it fastened without having to add a button, and who wants a big hard button right next to their throat anyway?
I give you the Last-Minute Neckwarmer!

Here be the recipe.
Materials: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick in 2 colors. Not even 1/2 skein of each. Colorway 1 in spice and butterscotch, colorway 2 in navy and cilantro.
Size 11 needles.
Cable needle.
Pattern notes: mb (make bobble): kfb. Turn work. P2. Turn work. kfb twice. Turn work. P4. Turn work. kfb, k2, kfb, turn work, p6. Turn work. K2 tog, k2, k2 tog. Turn work. P4. Turn work. K2 tog twice. Turn work. P2. Turn work. K2 tog.
4/4 LC: Put next 4 stitches on cable needle and hold to front. Knit following 4 stitches. Knit 4 stitches from holder.
LAST MINUTE NECKWARMER
Cast on 16 stitches
Rows 1 and 2: knit
Establish pattern: Row 3 (RS) k2, p2, k8, p2, k2
Row 4 (WS): k4, p8, k4
Repeat pattern (rows 3 and 4) for 2 more rows
Row 7 (RS): k2, pw, k3, mb, k4, p2, k2
Repeat pattern for 9 rows.
Row 17 (cable row): k2, p2, 4/4 LC, p2, k2.
Repeat pattern for 15 rows
Row 33: Repeat cable row
Repeat pattern for 7 rows ending with WS row 40.
Row 41: Change color. Continue in pattern for 8 rows.
Row 49: Repeat cable row
Repeat pattern for 15 rows
Row 65: Repeat cable row
Repeat pattern for 9 rows
Row 75: k2, p2, k3, k2 tog, yo, k3, p2, k2
Continue pattern for 3 rows
Rows 79 and 80: knit
Bind off.
Weave in ends.
